What Is The Kola Box?

Kola Box is not a waste box. It’s a portal for you to enter the beautiful world of the circular economy. You can opt-in to purchase a Kola Box for 5GBP at checkout. Once you receive it, please use it to collect and store any items you have purchased from Kola Project that break or deteriorates. Once full, you can schedule a collection to send your items back to Kola Project via a pre-paid shipping label. When we receive your box, we’ll safely up-cycle all of the collected materials.

What Happens To The Collected Materials?

The collected waste is mechanically or manually separated into metals, glass, ceramics, fibre, and plastics. Metals are melted so to be recycled. Glass and ceramic can be up-cycled into other products or recycled to create new products. The fibre (paper, fabric, wood) are up-cycled or recycled. The plastics undergo extrusion and pelletisation to be moulded into new recycled plastic products.

What Are The Accepted Items?

Everything that is sold at Kola Project is accepted. We can also accept any other metal, glass, ceramic, wood, fabric items you may occasionally have. However, please be mindful that we are still at an initial stage, and our processes may not be scaled up to support external items sufficiently.

What Are Unaccepted Items?

Organic waste.

Electronic Appliances.

Explosives, fireworks, and ammunition

Compressed, flammable, or toxic items

Corrosives and oxidisers

Radioactive materials

Aerosols (even if nozzles are protected)

Lithium Batteries

Kola Box Best Practices

Please rinse and dry any broken item pieces before placing them in the Kola Box.

i.e. if you break a glass item, wear safety gloves and collect all the large to medium pieces. If the pieces contain any organic materials such as food, place them in a bowl of water and rinse until the material comes off. Then place the glass items on a flat surface or a plate until they are thoroughly dry. Then you can add them to your Kola Box.

Organic materials can contain harmful contaminants and also poses a hazardous risk to our treatment facility team. Therefore, your corporation is much appreciated.

Thank you for being a part of a waste-free future.
